Store Policies


Thank you for choosing Window Treatments by Melissa, LLC to clothe your naked window! We make custom window treatments, including Roman shades, curtains, and valences. Please review the policies below before placing your order. By placing an order with our store, you agree to the policies below.

Production Time and Shipping

We normally ship an order within 8 weeks after the later of (1) the date we receive payment for an order, or (2) the date we receive the fabric, ribbon, or other custom materials necessary for the production of the order. We offer expedited production options, when possible, for an extra charge.

Purchasers are responsible for any and all duties and customs charges that may be incurred.

Expedited Orders

Expedited orders ship within seven business days of the date of order if there is one product on the order, and one day is added for each additional product in the order. If a customer’s chosen fabric choice is on backorder and we cannot complete the order in seven business days, the customer will be notified and the expedited fee will be refunded. If a customer is providing the fabric for an order, the seven business days begin the day Window Treatments by Melissa receives the fabric from the customer.

Returns and Alterations

We accept returns of orders that are defective for reasons that are the fault of Window Treatments by Melissa, LLC (“Windows by Melissa”). Because every order is custom, we cannot accept returns for any other reason. For defects that are the fault of Windows by Melissa, we will make alterations or repairs at our cost, and we will pay for shipping.

Windows does not offer refunds for defects that result from a customer’s failure to follow the fabric choice recommendations, below.

If you find a defect in your order, you must notify us within 14 days after the day you receive your order. After this time, any alterations or repairs to an order will be made only at the purchaser’s expense. Window Treatments by Melissa is not responsible and will not offer refunds for items altered by customer. Items requiring alteration due to customer negligence will be repaired at owners expense. Negligence includes, but is not limited to, improper mounting, hanging, removal of any stitching, removal of hem, or removal of any other product intended to make the product function. These products include, but are not limited to, eye hooks, cord locks, brass rings, cording or dowels.

In instances in which a customer would like an alteration or repair for a reason that is not the fault of Windows by Melissa, we can do this in some instances for an additional fee.


Carefully follow the instructions regarding measurement of your windows. Place your order measurements in inches. Because each item is handmade, and because of the physical qualities of some fabrics, the finished product will often not measure exactly as requested by the purchaser. Windows by Melissa guaranties that your finished product will be within 1/2 inch (for Roman shades and valences) or 1 inch (for curtains) of the requested measurements. If your product does not meet this please see the Returns and Alterations section, above.

Fabric Choices

Not all fabrics are appropriate for a window treatment. Only 54 inch wide home decor fabric should be used for an order unless Windows by Melissa specifically approves a different fabric. All fabric purchase recommendations (should the customer choose to purchase his or her own fabric for an order) will assume that the purchaser is using a 54 inch wide home decor fabric. If Windows by Melissa receives fabric for an order that does not meet the above guidelines, then the customer’s order might require additional fabric, different fabric, or the fabric might not hang correctly on the finished product.

If we determine that a fabric is not appropriate prior to beginning production of your order, we will attempt to contact you about the problem before we cut the fabric. However, because of the way fabric is shipped to us, it is not always possible for us to tell that the fabric is inappropriate before we cut the fabric (which renders the fabric impossible to return).

Order Cancellation and Refunds

An order may be cancelled at any time with full refund (less the cost to return fabric to you, if you had fabric mailed to us) before we begin production of your product. After we begin production of your order, we cannot offer a full refund. Windows by Melissa will refund the purchase price of the order less the costs incurred or reasonably anticipated to be incurred by us at the time of the cancellation for supplies, shipping, and/or contract labor.
